Adding silk routines to your show can really help you play big to the audience. Magic silks are colorful, pack small and light but give a real flare of elegance when they seem to come from nowhere. You can devise a number of ways to produce and vanish silks or even make them magically change colors! You can even purchase silk sets that are a whole routine in one like the Blendo Silks or Mismade Flag. Printed silks are also available featuring pictures of clowns, animals or different sayings to enhance your routine.
So come on along and let’s take a peek behind the curtain!
Before you start with a silk routine you can really wow the audience by first producing them with the aide of a magical chamber like a small production box.
This is an easy little prop to use, the magician removes the two panels from the box frame revealing an empty box, replace the panels and viola, silks appear form thin air. You can produce the silks all at once or individually.
Now that you have produced the silks, move seamlessly to the Crystal silk tube. Load the three silks into the clear tube say the magic words “Presto change o Bingo was his name o” remove the silks form the tube revealing they are now all joined as one.
The “Duck-Rabbit” silk is a fun surprise bit, where the picture on the silk changes right before the eyes of the audience. I like to tell them I will produce a rabbit from my hat, reach in and pull out the silk with a picture of a duck. Of course the crowd quickly sets yo straight that you didn’t produce any animal but only a silk with a picture of a duck. With one quick gesture the picture changes to a rabbit. This is a fun for a bit of filler material in your act.
Rainbow streamers are really a great addition to your show and can become a nice ending to a silk production piece. After producing several colorful silks you can place them inside your change bag, give the magic whammy and pull out a long streamer made up of the colors of the silks previously produced.
Having more than one silk routine is really nice because of the variety of ways you can work with them into your show. So have a little fun and explore the world of silk magic!
