Before applying clown makeup for any of the three clown types and for either wet or dry method, prep you face by washing it with soap and water to remove all facial oil. Use an astringent if needed.
Whiteface Wet Method
Apply clown white to face by using your fingertips, sponge, or makeup compress. Spread makeup evenly making sure you cover all your skin that is seen by the viewing eyes (eyelids, ears, neck, etc.).
To smooth out the makeup and give it a soft velvet look, pat it with your fingertips or compress.
Using a Q-tip, design your mouth and eyes by clearing out the white makeup. Saliva from your mouth on the a-tip is helpful.
Using a brush, Q-tip, or finger, apply colors to cleaned out areas as close as possible without touching the white areas that will be outlined.
Pat color with fingertip, being careful not to touch any other color.
Apply black outline around mouth and eye design with grease pencil or brush and makeup cup. Clean your pencil or brush frequently on a paper towel to prevent colors from running together. Powdering before outlining is recommended. Your personal preference in appearance will dictate how much you outline.
Powder your makeup. Pat in the powder and remove excess powder with a brush.
To remove powder film from your face and bring your colors to life, pat makeup with damp towel or sponge.
You can now add glitter or dry rouge to accent or high-light your cheeks or mouth.
