Show your audience a piece of rope about 24" long. You can display the rope vertically between your hands, and when the end is let go, the rope falls down, just like a normal rope. Repeat this a couple of times. Then the rope magically stays upright in your hand. Pass your hand over the rope, and instantly transform it into a United States flag which can be freely shown on both sides.
