ClownAntics.com donates thousands of clown supplies to over fifty schools and arts organizations in New York City

New York, NY (February, 2010) In 2010 Clown Antics made its largest ever gift of clown supplies, worth over $30,000, to schools and art organizations throughout New York City to help keep arts programs going during these difficult financial times. The gift was made in partnership with New York City Council of the Arts.

Some examples include:

  • Stage Production of'Thoroughly Modem Millie Jr.' by Middle School Students (ArtsConnection)
  • A "Walk-a-thon" for art residencies (PS110, New York)
  • Staged readings of plays based on myths from ancient cultures (Marquis Studios/PS 170)
  • Stage Production of 'Part One: The Lay of the Land' (The Chocolate Factory)
  • Stage Production of 'Snow White and the Unemployed Elves' (IS 126Q)
  • Stage Production of 'Annie' (High School for Environmental Studies)

"It is with these donated goods we are able to encourage our kids to reduce waste and be creative in their reuse of these items to improve our program areas by painting a mural on a wall, making scenery backdrops for our plays, create large murals and holiday decorating for display throughout our club!"

Karen M. Johnson, Executive Director
Variety Boys & Girls Club of Queens

"My students have been using all of their 'new' art materials to construct 'flying homes,' as a project dedicated to Haiti, students have worked in groups to conceive of what they consider to be an ideal home that could be built from recycled materials. What makes it fly is that it is free of the things that burden many homes. The idea is to make the youth think about a home's value as non-material. Using your materials, students have created their home representing ideals such as happiness, freedom, and peace. They have made their homes free of things like abuse, violence, shouting, etc,"

Katie Yamasaki, Art Teacher
Ballet Tech

"I am particularly proud of our work with the schools. As a father of two, I appreciate the positive effect the arts has on young minds."

Blake Cabot, owner of Clown Antics

About Materials for the Arts

Since 1978, Materials for the Arts has provided thousands of New York City's arts and cultural organizations, public schools and community arts programs with the supplies they need to run and expand their programs. Materials are gathered from companies and individuals that no longer need them and redistributed to the artists and educators that do. In the process, hundreds of tons are removed from the waste stream every year and kept out of landfills, helping to sustain our environment and promote reuse and waste reduction. MFTA helps artists realize their visions, provides students with a richer educational experience and furnishes businesses and individuals with a simple and efficient way to enhance the cultural life of their city.
