How To Differentiate Yourself From Other Clowns

Today I am going to be writing some ideas to help clowns differentiate themselves from other clowns, why this is helpful for your business, and how to find ways to be original in your clowning gigs.

It is easy to do games, tricks and comedy routines that every other clown or person can do. All you have to do is search YouTube and Google and you will find a lot of them there. But being different and original when doing your clowning service will help you get known by the public for your own particular traits and this is a good thing, especially if you are good at it and no other clown has done it before.

The following tips are just the start. There are many other areas you can apply the same concept of being different, but let’s talk about these three today.

Unique Clothes

Having custom made high quality clown clothes and shoes is something that will really help you be different. Instead of buying ready-made clown clothes, try to find somebody that draws well and ask them if they can draw you an original design. You can tell them your idea, if you have one or you can just let the person draw up his own idea of a clown outfit.

If you don’t know anybody that draws, then search Google for “custom clown outfit” or “custom clown costumes”.

Original Games and Comedy Routines

When you become a clown at first, usually you start your first gigs mostly with simple games and comedy routines that are popular in birthday parties, like dancing chairs, hot potato, and races.

You want to try to start inventing your own games and comedy routines. The easiest way to do this is to modify popular games with your own twist. For example, you can do the dancing chair and add another element to it like a dance move, a funny walk, combine it with Simon Says, or something like that. Just go all the way back to when you were a kid and remember the silly things you used to do in school or with your friends and try to apply it to your show.

A second way you can get great original games and routines is by watching cartoons and comedy shows, especially the older ones, like The 3 Stooges, Laurel and Hardy and Chaplin Movies among others.

One last way to get good ideas is to go to the circus and other funny events and start grabbing ideas that come to mind when you are watching the show. Just make sure you do not copy everything exactly as you see it. Remember to put your own twist on it or just grab any idea you like and add it or incorporate it up with one or more different ideas to create a better or funnier version.

Special something for birthday kid or parents

This last tip is something I use almost at every birthday party event I have. I make a photo arrangement where I use a picture of the birthday kid that the parent send me before the event and I find a nice background of the party’s theme and set it up for them to use it as a decoration in their table or sometimes they print shirts and put the image in it, or they might even make a big banner with this image. You can apply your own twist to this idea or you can invent an original one altogether.

So there you have it. These tips well help you be a better clown because by following them you will put on your thinking cap and will start coming up with all kinds of ideas that you can start including in your events to differentiate yourself from other clowns and start building your own tribe of followers.
