Tutorial for Realistic Wonder Woman-Inspired Crown

Wednesday I went to see the new Wonder Woman movie with family and  friends, and we absolutely loved it. It was a great story with intense action. Fortunately, my kids will allow me to face paint certain designs on them, and anything realistic and inspired by superheroes falls into that category, so we decided to do a design inspired by the new Wonder Woman movie.

Materials

Gold face paint (Paradise)
Mehron gold powder
Silver face paint (Paradise)
Pearl white (TAG)
Black face paint (Diamond FX or Wolfe)
Black face paint (Paradise)
1/4-inch flat or filbert brush
#2 round brush
Smudging or blending brush

Tutorial

If you'd like an intense metallic sheen on your crown, then add a little gold Mehron powder to the gold paint before you begin. You can add silver powder to your Mehron silver as well to make it more intense. I love the powders, but you just have to make sure your paint is quite wet and only add a small amount, or it will fly all over your other paints.

Apply the crown in the shape below, beginning with gold and blending some silver in to create a titanium/brushed metal look.

Next use a #2 round brush and black to create a simple outline as shown. You want your basic shape down before you deepen the black.

Use the Paradise black, which is a little softer, to add some shadowed areas by applying it first with your #2 brush and then softening it with the blender brush. Use the same technique to create light shadows along the bottom edge of the crown.

Add more shadows to the outer edges of the crown where then begin to move toward the hairline.

Make a starburst in the center with the #2 brush and a combination of pearl white and a little silver.

Using the same colors, add highlights to the crown and deepen the shadows around the starburst with black for contrast.

Now you're ready to save the world, Wonder Woman-style.
